Dragon Con 2009 Costumes

Dragon Con annual parade was kicked off this Saturday, September 5th. A team of ghostbusters, a group of people dressed as Imperial stormtroopers from the Star Wars series, another group dressed as spartan soldiers from the novel and movie 300, and hundreds of other costumed geeks and artists paraded through the downtown Atlanta. There was no shortage of Star Wars characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Kids were seen dressed in their favorite Optimus Prime Transformers costume or the adoreable Bumble Bee Costume. We also saw a bunch of people  (both woman and men) elaborately dressed as pirates on a pirate ship that sailed through the streets of Atlanta. Some dressed up as Alien vilans.

Dragon Con is scheduled during the labor day weekend September 4th through 7th 2009. It is the biggest pop-culture convention mainly focused on Sci-Fi, fnatasy, comics, movies, music and gaming in United States. It takes place annually in Atlanta GA. Unlike a lot  of other conventions that take places hotels and warehouses, this one takes place in a six-square block area of downtown Atlanta.  This has proved as contributing factor for the success of the convention as many Spectaters can watch the parade and all the  different costumes without being a membor of the convention and get Inspired. As of 2009, the fan roster is in excess of 30K members and the conventions is managed by a team of 1500 plus volunteer fans. It was started back in 1987 by a local Sci-Fi and gaming fan group founded by Ed Kramer. Some spectaters just come to watch the "freak show" while some just shun the "geeky weirdo" participants and move on.
Some of the proceeds from the convention are spent on community building and charitable purposes so all in all its a good cause.
